North Chicagoland Area ♫ Guitar, Piano and Ukulele Instruction ♫ Online via Zoom! ♫ Columbia Trained Instructor with 22 Years of Live Performing Experience. ♫ Are you Ready to Learn? About Me My whole life is music. I love to teach, perform and compose music. Although I love all these elements, I would have to say that my greatest joy comes from seeing my students progress towards becoming accomplished musicians. Whatever your goals may be, I take great pride in helping you attain them. My Philosophy on Music There is imitation and creation, but to truly create, one must first learn the established forms before one can break them. Eventually through discipline to these forms, one will see these forms not as absolutes governors, but instead a variety of tools that aid us in our artistic expression and enjoyment. My Philosophy as an Educator To be an effective educator I believe that one must not only create a curriculum and pay attention to the individual needs of their students, but one must also provide an environment that fosters growth. That is why I am a firm believer in being extremely kind, providing positive feedback and maintaining a safe environment. Education I have been playing Guitar and Singing since I was 9 years of age, almost entirely self taught. When I graduated from High School I then attended Columbia where I studied Music Theory and Composition. During my time at Columbia, not only did I rank at the top of my class, but I also was rated the top guitarist on fretboard jury for two semesters in a row. In addition, this is when I began to play the piano, developing a proficiency in performance and composition through 12 years of dedication. Performance Outside of my education experience, I also have real life experience as a performer, the greatest educator of all. I have been performing in bands since I was 12 years of age, which is currently 22 years of live performance experience. During this time I have played various styles of music including, Rock, Psychedelic, Punk, Reggae, Ska, Metal, Blues, and a current blend that utilizes many of these forms. Included in these experiences was touring, playing almost every venue in Chicago and earning Chicagoland rotation play on XRT. Experience as an Educator My experience as an educator began when I was a junior in High School, where I fast gained a reputation as an exceptional guitarist/singer. During this time a few of my friends and classmates asked me if I would teach them. Since then, I have been teaching non-stop out of my residence and other creditable music stores. I taught at Avenue N. Guitars for 2008-2010, House of Music from 2010-2016 and have been teaching with Dynamic Music in Glenview, while also keeping my own private students, ever since. AVAILABILITY AND RATES Unless Otherwise Booked, I am Currently Offering Lessons: Friday, Saturday and Sunday 3:00pm-9:00pm Area Covered: North Chicagoland Area Rates: $35 for 1/2 hour, $45 for 45 minutes and $55 for 1 hour LESSON DETAILS I believe in providing a well rounded education for you or your child. My approach entails a 50/50 split between doing the hard work necessary to excel and learning how to truly enjoy the experience of music. Therefore, their will be a standard allotment of scales, chords, sight-reading and music theory education. However, one must also learn how to use these elements to find there own stylized expression, creative abilities and improvisational voice, which I believe to be necessary if one is to really enjoy music. Although all of these elements seem necessary to me, I do understand that everyone has their own particular agenda. Therefore, I curtail my curriculum to accommodate the goals and abilities of my students. EQUIPMENT -All you need is your Piano/guitar/ukulele, picks, tuner and a music stand. -If your guitar is electric you will need chords and an amp. -note: Any lesson books are to be purchased by the student.
