MUST HAVE PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE WORKING ON FACTORY TRAWLER IN ALASKA.APPLY HERE:  Deckhands work aboard at-sea processing vessels in the Bering Sea, Pacific Ocean, Gulf of Alaska and Aleutian Islands. They perform all functions of Factory Trawler deck operations including gear work and safety under direct supervision of the Bosun or Master.Duties and Responsibilities:Signals workers such as Combis to move, hoist, or position nets and equipment safely as required to haul and set fishing gear and equipmentAttaches slings, hooks, and other lifting devices to cables, trawl equipment and nets as required to safely haul, empty, repair and set fishing gear at sea in all weather conditionsOperate cranes, winches or other lifting equipment to bring aboard and move equipment on deck as necessaryTrains Combi personnel in safe and efficient deck operation proceduresOperates skiff to transport crew, supplies or equipment at sea or in portMakes repairs and adjustments fishing gear and equipment to and other trawler deck equipment as neededSecures and removes vessels docking lines to and from docks and other vesselsParticipates as member of fire and safety team in emergency situationWorks up to 4 hours/day in the factory, or more as neededPhysical Ability and Skills:Variable schedule, normally works 16 hours/day beginning and ending at any time of day or nightUnderstand instructions and safety rules in EnglishBoard and exit vessel without assistance by climbing up and down a gangway or Jacob's ladderCapable of climbing and descending steep stairs and vertical laddersBe away from medical attention for up to 3 monthsRepeatedly lift and carry up to 50 poundsShare spaces with others including crew quarters, dining areas and bathroomsNorth Star Fishing Company is an Equal Opportunity Employer - Minority / Women / Disability / Veteran / Gender Identity / Sexual Orientation / Age.
