Description
Regions that understand their labor market will grow existing businesses and attract new ones. Those regions who don’t will lose workers. There’s no “perfect “ labor market. Every region has its opportunities to improve. Employers understand every area has its challenges when it comes to meeting workforce needs. The key to growing and attracting business is your strategy to address the gaps in your labor market. Are the major players on board and who are those players? What is the role of K-12 and higher education, economic and workforce development, and employers? Why do population demographics have the potential to give us a huge economic face slap? How we address labor market challenges will play a significant role in improving our quality of life in Ellis County. It’s not just an issue for economic developers and elected officials. It’s up to all of us to play a role in ensuring a strong regional economy for ourselves and future generations. In this summit, Mark Hays will discuss why strong labor market intelligence is critical in attracting new business, engaging disadvantaged populations in the workforce, and growing regional economies. He will discuss the strategies he’s been involved with and utilized by community leaders to grow and attract business and why they worked...or in some cases, didn’t. Be prepared to participate in a discussion that will change the way you think about labor market strategies and the impact they have on our local economy. Mark Hays has made a career and developed a life’s passion for helping people succeed, businesses grow, and communities thrive. He’s done this by helping employers and regions understand their local labor market’s role in attracting talent, growing existing companies, and bringing new business to the community. Knowing the regional labor market helps businesses and communities and can mean the difference business growth and stagnation. He will demonstrate the ways he has utilized labor market information to spur business growth and lure some of the nation’s top companies to begin or expand operations in the DFW area. Mark hold a Bachelor of Science degree in Agriculture Communications from Oklahoma State University and a Master’s degree in Public Administration from the University of Oklahoma. His career reflects over 25 years of public sector service, including Resource Development Manager for Economic Development for the Oklahoma Dept of Commerce, Director of Workforce and Economic Development at the Oklahoma State University Institute of Technology, Vice Chancellor of Workforce and Economic Development for Dallas College, and currently as Manging Director of Business Development & Sales for Chmura Economic & Analytics.
