From City of West Palm Beach: April 7, 2021 During the City Commission meeting held on Monday, April 5, 2021, commissioners approved the designation of H.G. Roosters as a historic site within the City of West Palm Beach. The establishment, located at 823 Belvedere Road, has served as a safe gathering place for the local LGBTQ+ community for more than 60 years. As historic preservation evolves, the city is committed to including sites that are significant to under-represented groups to tell a more comprehensive story of its past. Beyond H.G. Roosters' physical structure as a visual landmark, the establishment has been a leader in philanthropic efforts and gay pride initiatives. H.G. Roosters earned its historic designation by meeting the following criteria: Building must be at least 50 years old. Establishment is associated with events that have made a significant contribution to the broad patterns of the City's history. Establishment is associated with a singular location that is unique OR possesses singular physical characteristics that make it an established, or familiar visual feature.
