WAUWATOSA, WI— A zoo visitor climbed over a locked fenced area of the outdoor elephant exhibit Wednesday afternoon, according to a spokesperson from the Milwaukee County Zoo. Patch reached out to the Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office on Wednesday but haven't heard back as of Thursday morning. According to a TMJ4 report, the Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office said in a statement that the man did so to "impress his daughter." The Milwaukee County Zoo issued a statement that a man began to climb over a secondary fence but did not breach that barrier. The individual never shared space with two of the zoo's African elephants who were outside at the time. Zoo security staff notified the Milwaukee County Sheriff's Department who responded and escorted the visitor off zoo property. The zoo was closed at the time of the incident, as current operating hours are 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. As is normal procedure, visitors were making their way to the exits, and security staff were assisting to usher out the remaining guests, the statement said.
