Lamont Considers Housing Migrant Children In Middletown: Reports

MIDDLETOWN, CT — Gov. Ned Lamont is considering housing migrant children at the former Connecticut Juvenile Training School in Middletown, according to multiple reports. The Middletown Press first reported that Lamont, who visited the facility at 1225 River Rd. last week, is reviewing options to properly care for migrant children that could potentially travel to Connecticut. The now-closed Connecticut Juvenile Training School was a controversial jail opened by former Gov. John G. Rowland in 2001 and closed by Gov. Dannel P. Malloy in 2018, the Hartford Courant reported. Max Reiss, Lamont's chief spokesperson, told the Courant that everything happening "is preliminary" and that no final decisions have been made on whether the unaccompanied children might be coming to Connecticut.
