Reconstruction Of 13th Street Continues In Ames

Press release from the City of Ames: April 7, 2021 The two north (westbound) lanes of 13th Street from Wilson to Burnett avenues will be closed beginning Monday, April 12, as work continues on the reconstruction of 13th Street. Westbound traffic on 13th Street will be shifted to single-lane traffic in both directions on the two south (eastbound) lanes. The north sidewalk will remain open; however, the south sidewalk, driveway access, and side street access in the area will be closed. Removal and reconstruction of the westbound lanes of 13th Street from Wilson to Burnett Avenues is expected to be complete in six weeks, followed by construction of additional phases of the project. The City of Ames has contracted with Con-Struct to complete this project, which includes the reconstruction of 13th Street from Wilson to Duff avenues. In addition to new concrete street pavement, the 13th Street project also includes storm and sanitary sewer improvements, water main replacement, residential water transfers, and Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) sidewalk ramp improvements. The project will be completed in five phases to allow emergency vehicles access to and from the Ames Fire Station at 1300 Burnett Ave. At all times, one lane of 13th Street in each direction will remain open to traffic. However, access to side streets will be restricted for safety reasons and to ease potential congestion of the construction zone. Construction is anticipated to be completed in late fall 2021. As with all projects, the actual duration will depend on weather conditions. All are encouraged to take note of this construction activity in the area and allow extra travel time as delays will occur.
