The City of Pleasanton is now accepting applications for a 2021-22 Teen Poet Laureate. The City is searching for qualified candidates who can help foster an appreciation for composing, reading, reciting, and listening to poetry in and around the City of Pleasanton.
The Poet Laureate brings fun and creativity to various City of Pleasanton events during the year. Examples of past projects that a Teen Poet Laureate could pursue are:
The City of Pleasanton is hosting its annual Transit Fair at the Pleasanton Senior Center on Tuesday, March 17. Several transit agencies are participating in order to assist senior citizens with their transportation needs. The event is open to the public and will include door prizes.
WHO: Eligible applicants include incoming Pleasanton high school juniors and seniors who enjoy writing, inspiring others, and are interested in contributing to their community.
WHAT: Teen Poet Laureate is a one-year (academic year) volunteer post that brings fun and creativity to various City of Pleasanton events throughout the year.
Examples of past Teen Poet Laureate-led projects: • Poetry readings on a school campus • Assisting teachers with poetry programs at their schools • Open mics • Pop-up poetry at the Pleasanton Public Library • Poems set to music by the High School Music Collaborative

WHEN: Application deadline is 5pm, Fri., April 30.
Applicants will be asked to participate in a brief Zoom interview between May 3- 13.
