AURORA, IL — An Aurora man is facing several felony charges after police alleged he choked a woman and fired a gun at her during a fight last month. Elyas Taha, 29, was charged with felony counts of armed violence, aggravated discharge of a firearm and aggravated domestic battery with strangulation, according to DuPage County prosecutors. Aurora officers were called around 9:10 a.m. March 25 after shots were fired in the 2600 block of Country Oaks Court on the city's Far East Side, police officials said in a news release. Both shots damaged the driver's side of the woman's car, which she was standing next to at the time, police allege. "Thankfully, no one was struck by a ricocheting bullet and injured or killed," DuPage County State's Attorney Robert Berlin said in a news release. Taha is also accused of hitting the woman several times and choking her for about 15 seconds before firing a gun at the car, according to police.
