Offering the Only Fully Traditional Pre-Vatican II Traditional Latin Mass And Divine Office with Gregorian Chant In the San Francisco Bay Area Continuously since 1992 "Some Things in Life Should Never Change" "An Oasis of Spiritual Sanity" ST. JOHN'S ORATORY SCHEDULE FOR SUNDAY, APRIL 11, 2021 SUNDAY IN WHITE ON THE OCTAVE OF EASTER / LOW SUNDAY / QUASIMODO SUNDAY Greater Double Sunday in White Vestments 9:30 AM: Hour of Terce of the Divine Office in Gregorian Chant Chanted Angelus with Carillon 10:00 AM: Fully Traditional Latin Mass Other Collects: None. Gregorian Chant by the St. John Schola for Gregorian Chant Mini Catechism/Bible Study/Sermon: "Without the Catholic Church We Should Have No Knowledge of the Bible at All" THOUGHT FOR THIS SUNDAY'S MASS This Sunday is also known as Quasimodo Sunday, from the first word of today's Introit, which reminds us that we are "like infants," born in the waters of baptism and must reflect the reason and truth that we learn from the milk of Church teaching. It is also from the name of this Sunday that the famous character Quasimodo, found abandoned on the cathedral steps, gets his name in Victor Hugo's novel, "The Hunchback of Notre Dame." CONTINUING NEEDS Altar servers, Gregorian chant schola (choir) members. ST. JOHN'S ORATORY ST. JOHN'S ORATORY IS THE ONLY LOCATION IN THE BAY AREA THAT HAS PRESERVED THE REAL, VALID, FULLY TRADITIONAL CATHOLIC LATIN MASS (1950) AND RITES BEFORE THEY WERE CHANGED INTO A HALF NEW ORDER "NEW LATIN" (AKA "EXTRAORDINARY") SERVICE IN 1962 AND BEFORE, INTO AN INVALID NEW ORDER SERVICE IN 1969. Even the 1962 "New Latin" service is NOT the TRADITIONAL CATHOLIC Latin Mass, even though it may be falsely advertised as such to trick the ignorant into its Protestantized service by throwing in some Latin. We here at St. John's Oratory since 1992 have never deviated from the true and valid Traditional Latin Mass, True Sacraments, and True Faith of 2,000 years. ST. JOHN'S ORATORY DID NOT COME ONLY RECENTLY TO THIS APOSTOLATE, BUT HAS OFFERED, WITH EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, AND COMMITMENT, THE HISTORICAL TRADITIONAL LATIN MASS AND DIVINE OFFICE EVERY SUNDAY AND HOLYDAY SINCE 1992. St. John's Oratory is also known as a center for promoting the traditional Latin Gregorian chant of the traditional Roman rite. Gregorian chant is sung by the St. John Gregorian Schola of San Francisco, which is recording a series of Gregorian-chant CDs series entitled "A Traditional Chapel Sings Gregorian Chant," being issued under the ChantCD label. For further information, see the ChantCD web site at www.chantcd.com/sjs.htm. FOR THE FULL SCHEDULE OF THE TRADITIONAL LATIN MASSES AND DIVINE OFFICE, LOCATION MAPS, FREE PARKING, AND OTHER INFORMATION, see our web site at www.traditio.com/stjohn.htm, E-mail: ssja at traditio.com. If you wish to keep alive the only fully Traditional Latin Mass in the Bay Area, and be added to the benefactors for whom we pray each Sunday and Holyday, you may submit your tax-deductible donation through our web site. St. John's Oratory, at the Fishermen's & Seamen's Memorial Chapel, is a San Francisco historical landmark blessed by His Eminence Salvatore Cardinal Pappalardo, Archbishop of Palermo, and dedicated to the memory of those who have lost their lives at sea. We pray at every Mass for the fishermen and seamen of this port. In the heart of Fisherman's Wharf, turn east off Embarcadero/Jefferson Street onto Taylor Street, then left onto the Pier 45 access road. The Oratory is located about one block down the access road, one block northeast of the corner of Jefferson & Taylor Streets, next to the bell-tower. There is free parking adjacent to the Oratory and wheelchair access. The Society of St. John Ap., a traditional Roman Catholic society, operates independently of any diocese or other religious society as an Oratory, not a parish. All services are offered only on site.
