If you want a kitten or cat — don’t be fooled by these people who charge ridiculous amounts for kittens who are not dewormed or vaccinated.
Kittens should never go home before 8 weeks - so anyone selling them younger than that is not good. They cannot be without their mothers before 8 weeks — which is the earliest. 12 weeks is the ideal age for kittens to go to new homes.
Also, these people charging hundreds of dollars for kittens without records are not to be trusted because they can claim they’re healthy but are not. It makes sense if people are charging $300-$1000 for kittens that DO come with health records, health testing, and vaccinations. If they don’t, run far away.
Deposits are also ridiculous — don’t do it.
Lastly shelter kittens and cats are a great alternative. They come vaccinated and spayed/neutered so you don’t have to worry about their health. They’re not dirty street cats that they just put up for adoption immediately. They’re rescued and are given examinations/vaccinations.
I’ve bought all my kittens from Craigslist and paid good money for them — but they all came with health records and shots already. It’s just crazy that so many people are selling kittens under 12 weeks for hundreds of dollars without any health guarantee.
