Horse Trainer – Ranch Hand Needed We are looking for a part-time Horse Trainer – Ranch Hand. This is an independent contractor position and the preferred work days are Tuesday thru Friday mornings (although we can be flexible for the right person). This person will work four, 4 hour days a week on our small ranch in the Circle Mountain area of New River helping to take care of and train our 4 quarterhorses. Our horses are well trained and we want someone who can continue advancing them in their training. Duties will include: 1. Ride at least one horse per day out on local trails or trailer them a short ways to the local arena (depending on what the horse needs to work on) to keep them up on their training. 2. Morning feed, give supplements and clean stalls on your work days. 3. Groom and bathe horses as necessary. 4. Doctor the horses, as necessary … wormer/shots/hoof conditioner/etc. 5. Keep horse tack, tack room, truck and trailer clean and tidy. 6. Help clean up grounds as necessary. Job requirements are: • Must have western riding experience and be an advanced rider. • Must be DEPENDABLE! • Must be confident taking a horse out by yourself. • Must have verifiable horse training experience (anyone who rides know that you are always training a horse). • Knowledge of “natural horsemanship” is a plus. Our horses have been trained by Brandi Lyons in Scottsdale. So, it’s important that whoever we hire is able to “sync” with her training method. (We know there are a lot of good trainers out there and there are many ways to get a horse to do something. But, it’s best to have consistency and that is what we are going for.) • Must know how to drive a ¾ ton diesel truck and hook up/pull/park a horse trailer. • MUST take good care of the horses! • MUST be safety conscious at all times! • Good memory … “I forgot” is not a desirable job skill. • No DRAMA!!!! • Must be physically fit … ranch work, training, trailering and riding horses requires strength and stamina. This is a great opportunity for someone who is currently a horse trainer and wants to supplement their income. Or, someone who wants to work part time and enjoys working with horses.
