Garden Manager Job Description To apply, please send resume and cover letter - please check out website for more information: www.farmhandsnourish.org Position Terms: Flexible seasonal position, 27 weeks/year mid-April through mid-October ● April 12th, 2021 - June 25th, 2021 (20 hours per week) ○ 10 hours per week at the Planetree Healing Garden ○ 10 hours per week at the Columbia Falls Junior High School ● June 28th, 2021-October 15th, 2021 (30 hours per week) ○ 10 hours per week at the Planetree Healing Garden ○ 20 hours per week at the Columbia Falls Junior High School Locations: ● Wildcat Garden, Columbia Falls Junior High School ● Planetree Healing Garden, North Valley Hospital (Whitefish) Salary: $15-$17/hr DOE Direct Reports: Executive Director and Education Coordinator Indirect Reports: Farm Hands Board Job Requirements: • Ability to pass a background check • High school diploma or equivalent • Computer skills including Google Drive, Email, and Microsoft Office • Farming/gardening experience • Understanding of local climate, seasonality of crops, and the growing season in Montana • Ability to train, supervise and organize volunteers • Strong organizational skills • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills • Ability to lift 50lbs • Ability to stand for 4-6 hours • Ability to stand, squat, kneel, and use any relevant equipment and tools • Ability to work outside in all weather conditions Preferred Qualifications: • ServSafe Certification • CPR and First Aid Certification • Experience teaching school-aged children • 1-3 years of experience as garden or farm manager • Understanding and knowledge of the Flathead Valley food system • Experience training and managing volunteers • Passion for working with farmers and youth Duties - Wildcat Garden Maintain Wildcat Garden ● All tasks related to growing produce in the school garden including seeding, transplanting, crop planning, succession planting, weeding, watering, composting, mulching, harvesting ● Ensure Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) and ServSafe protocols are followed when handling, harvesting, and storing ● Setup and maintain irrigation systems ● Maintain beautiful and functional garden through weeding, mowing, etc ● Maintain and prune fruit trees Agricultural Education & Outreach ● Coordinate with Education Coordinator to ensure garden is available and safe for lessons, and to have tasks, activities, and produce available for those lessons ● Occasionally assist Education Coordinator in teaching garden lessons ● Facilitate Columbia Falls School District teachers in using the garden as an outdoor classroom for their students ● Coordinate with Education Coordinator and teachers to ensure students are as hands-on in the garden as possible ● Coordinate with Education Coordinator on garden work days, volunteer events, etc. Duties - Planetree Healing Garden Maintain Planetree Healing Garden ● Create a maintenance plan with weekly garden tasks ● Create a garden walk-through checklist and complete regularly ● All tasks related to the garden including seeding, transplanting, crop planning, succession planting, pruning, weeding, watering, composting, mulching, harvesting ● Ability to ensure Good Agricultural Practices when handling and harvesting ● Setup and maintain irrigation systems ● Maintain beautiful and functional garden through weeding, mowing, etc. Volunteers & Outreach ● Create weekly garden updates in the form of a short newsletter with photos and share with FHN Outreach Coordinator and NVH contact ● Create and organize an event calendar for the garden season including a spring volunteer day and other events ● Train, schedule, and manage garden volunteers including creating a weekly plan, communication board for tasks, and a system for tracking volunteer hours ● Coordinate with North Valley Hospital Green Team and Diabetes group on events, needs, and updates ● Coordinate weekly harvests and deliveries to the Valley Cafe ● Track pounds of produce harvested
