Update on the Westside Rock Quarry
The Quarry has operated a waste processing and recycling business at their address on Hergert Road despite being told by DEQ and DOGAMI to cease operations and remove all hazardous waste. Evidence provided by DEQ and DOGAMI points to the Quarry not only ignoring this requirement but actually increasing the amount of contaminates stored at the site. This recycling business operation has no legal standing. It operates outside legal authority to operate at this site.
DEQ and DOGAMI Reports provide clear and convincing evidence of the environmental hazards associated with this operation. For example, inspection reports found the turbidity level in a nearby runoff ditch was 4000 times above normal ( yes, that’s 4000 times). During a December 19, 2018 DEQ inspection visit staff found 10,000 tons of glass waste and 3000 tons of asphalt shingle waste on site. State staff have provided narrative in their reports about the environmental hazards associated with these items.
