Tasteful drummer for eclectic female vocalist band Santa Cruz
Meets
Santa Cruz CA
Description
The relatively new Santa Cruz CA band, Arcane Lullaby, is looking for a skilled tasteful drummer for this eclectic female vocalist based band. Arcane Lullaby currently consists of: Ana - Bass Button - Vocals Catkin - Vocals Jason - Guitar We are doing all original songs written by Jason, the guitarist. There is no single genre that our music fits into. Some of the songs are impossible to categorize as they are totally original - while other songs are inspired by the styles of blues, rock, soul, psychedelic, metal-ballad, goth, or reggae but have their own spin on those. At present Jason has 10 songs written and has several more in the works. For all of the songs so far Button and Catkin do not sing together but each sing on different songs. We may eventually do a couple of cover songs too but this is not a cover band. The band started right before the first lockdown in March 2020 which has made progress on this project a bit of a challenge but we have been working on putting a simple demo together by meeting one on one in safe masked socially distanced sessions. Not having a drummer for the demo has been an additional challenge but we have been very fortunate to have a friend in LA throw down some beats for two of our songs so far via remote collaboration. Those two songs are our first two demos for the songs FICKLE (featuring Button on vocals) and CRUSH (featuring Catkin on vocals) FICKLE: https://soundcloud.com/arcanelullaby/fickle-arcane-lullaby-demo CRUSH: https://soundcloud.com/arcanelullaby/crush-arcane-lullaby-demo These two are the only finished songs for our first demo but we have most of the other songs as works in progress and will be happy to share the private links to those songs to a drummer that is interested in our project so that they can get a better idea of the range of songs and styles we have so far. Some of our songs so far have relatively slow tempos which does not necessarily mean they need slow beats because in some cases having a slightly frenetic beat for a slow song can be a good match. While other songs may call for a slower beat. Because some of the songs are slow and many of them are unusual we need to find a drummer who is up for the challenge of creatively engaging with each song in a tasteful way. We are also looking for a drummer who is interested enough in the songs, even the “unfinished” ones, to want to learn the parts and collaborate. This is not a jam band and Jason is pretty clear with his vision for these songs but he is also very collaborative. However there will be portions of songs that will include live improvisation so we want a drummer who has some experience, can roll with the punches, is interested in the music, and who can bring creativity. This is for the love of music so it is very important to us that we find someone who resonates with these songs (not just the two from the demo but the other works in progress as well) and will enjoy playing with us. The love of music, of playing music, performing music live, and sharing music is what it is about. We hope to find someone that is a good match as soon as we can because the tides of this pandemic are turning and we may be able to play soon. We hope to start rehearsing as soon as possible and then start playing gigs as soon as possible too. We are all conscious, caring, and careful mask wearing people and we will want to find someone who is respectful of that until we are in the clear. Some of us are getting vaccinated already so things are moving in the direction of not having to worry about that anymore but until then lets play it safe. We are not under the illusion of “making it” or becoming rock-stars. Right now we want to get a drummer that is a good match, rehearse, play some low key gigs to start out with and enjoy the process. We will probably want to record the new drummer to get a few more tracks finished for our demo too. Then we can continue to rehearse, work on more songs and play medium to bigger gigs but we all have jobs, families, and so forth so we are not going to be going on tour (any time soon at least!). Also this is not a paid position. Once we are playing paid gigs we will split the money we make evenly between the members of the band but it might be a while before we are playing well paid gigs. None of us are in this project for financial gain. If financial gain eventually happens then that is a great bonus. Again, this for the love of music and to enjoy ourselves and bring joy to our audiences as well. So if you read through this whole thing and listened to the two demo tracks and are interested in joining this unique band then please respond to let us know and then we can send you the work in progress tracks to check out and move forward from there. Thank you very much. We look forward to finding our drummer!
