TEWKSBURY, MA — Tewksbury received a $220,000 infrastructure grant for sidewalks along Route 38, the town said Tuesday.
The state grant will go toward sidewalks between Colonial Drive and Victor Drive, with construction slated to begin in late summer.
The grant is part of the state Housing Choice Initiative. The initiative was launched in 2017 and designated Tewksbury a choice community in 2020.
The initiative is meant to "increase housing production by empowering municipalities to lead on local development," the town said. The program includes technical assistance, grants like the one Tewksbury received and legislation signed into law in Jan. 2021 which lowered the threshold for zoning changes from two-thirds to a simple majority.
The goal is to build 135,000 new housing units by 2025.
