Description
RAMAPO, NY — Part of Rockland County was without power for several hours Sunday after a car ran into a utility pole and caught fire.
The crash closed North Airmont Road between the New York State Thruway and Montebello Road, as well as interchange 14B, with no traffic allowed off or on I-87 northbound, while O&R Utilities repaired the pole.
Traffic lights were out across the area and businesses and homes also lost power. In addition to the Ramapo Police Department, the Tallman Fire Department responded to fight the blaze.
Police reported Airmont Road and the Thruway exits and entrances open at 6:30 a.m. Monday.
The driver and a passenger apparently ran away, according to Rockland Fires.
