STRATFORD, CT — Democrat Immacula Jo Cann has raised more than $31,000 in two weeks after announcing her candidacy for mayor on March 17, according to her campaign. "I am so proud and humbled to have received such a wonderful outpouring of support of my candidacy for mayor," Cann said in a statement. "The people want Democratic leadership in Stratford because the status quo just isn't cutting it anymore. People want to see progress. "I'm vaccinated, excited, and ready to start bringing our message of change to voters. Together, we are going to focus on creating a better future for every resident of Statford by investing in our small businesses and smart economic growth, ensuring our teachers and students have the resources they need, and fighting to make every neighborhood the best it can be." Two other potential Democratic candidates have also expressed an interest in running for mayor, including Stephanie Philips who lost to Mayor Laura Hoydick in the 2017 election, and Board of Education member Bob DeLorenzo. "It's impressive," Democratic Town Committee Chairman Steve Taccogna said of Cann's early fundraising. "The outpouring around Immacula's candidacy in just a few short weeks is an impressive show of support. It's the sort of performance that shows she has what it takes to win." Cann is a Board Certified Psychiatric and Mental Health Registered Nurse, with a Doctorate of Nursing Practice degree from Northeastern University. "She has lived in Stratford for 30 years and has nearly three decades of experience in professional nursing, working with non-profit organizations, state-licensed social service agencies, and health care facilities," according to a news release. "She is a lifelong advocate for social justice, families, and children, with local and international experience developing and implementing policies and programs to improve lives."
