BROOKFIELD, WI— Incumbent Mushir Hassan took the lead after 10 p.m. against opponent James Thomas Gunsalus in the Elmbrook School Board race. Two seats are open for school board members to be elected, one in Election Area IV (roughly the District's southeast quadrant) and one At-Large seat. Winners of these seats will serve three-year terms beginning April 26, 2021 through April 21, 2024. Write in: 2,036 votes School Board Member At-Large SeatVote for 1 James Thomas Gunsalus 5,689 votes Mushir Hassan 6,296 votes Write-in: 55 votes Below are the candidates who were on the ballot Tuesday: Jean Lambert Incumbent Jean Lambert is a clinical and financial data analyst with over 40 years of health care experience at all levels. She was elected to the School District of Elmbrook Board of Education in 2009. Lambert is seeking re-election to continue working on education excellence in Elmbrook. She believes the main work lies in the following areas: Address post-pandemic issues whether academic or social/emotionalImprove K-3 literacy Improve the school experience for diverse groups of students Retain our incredibly talented staff Assure optimal levels of technology for all students Address social/emotional needs of our students Emily Donohue Challenger Emily Donohue is an insurance professional who is seeking office to represent the community's concerns and preserve educational excellence. She said she has children currently in the district and understands first hand the issues created by COVID-19. "Students need to see there is light at the end of the tunnel," she said. Mushir Hassan Incumbent At-Large member Mushir Hassan was selected as At-Large member in 2020. Hassan is an internal medicine physician and VP Medical Affairs/Chief Medical Officer at Elmbrook Hospital. Hassan told Patch he wants to serve the community in ensuring that the school district remains best in class. The most pressing issue for Hassan is coming out of the pandemic and ensuring that students receive the educational, social, and emotional support they need to succeed. James Thomas Gunsalus James Thomas Gunsalus' campaign website said he is a dedicated family man raising his kids with solid core values. "I have 13 more years in the Elmbrook School District and want to make sure my kids and other kids in the school district are educated properly," his website said. Unofficial election results will be reviewed by the School District Board of Canvassers on Monday at 3 p.m. in the board room of the district office located at 3555 North Calhoun Road in Brookfield.
