Gather the tools and knowledge you need for an Incredible Birth Day through our comprehensive Childbirth Education Series! This class will meet 6/8, 6/15, and 6/22 from 6-9pm, at our Overland Park location. This is an in-person class, we will meet in the Overland Park birth center community room. Welcome to Comprehensive Childbirth Education. This class covers content from our Childbirth Education Part 1: Labor and Birth as well as Childbirth Education Part 2: Postpartum, Newborn, and Breastfeeding. During this three week series, we will cover labor signs, stages and phases of labor, comfort measures, as well as emphasize ways to decrease stress, promote relaxation, and increase the odds of natural childbirth. In addition, we will cover postpartum, newborn, introduction to breastfeeding, ways in which to help mother recover from her pregnancy, and bond with baby. Your partner/support person is also encouraged to attend (but does not need to register). Qualified nursing professionals can earn 6.5 contact hours of Continuing Nurse Education for attending this class. Prior registration for continuing education and additional fee required. Objectives: Each participant will demonstrate how to identify labor signs and stages and phases of labor. Each participant will verbalize 3 comfort measures to use in labor. Each participant will demonstrate how to decrease stress and promote relaxation in pregnancy, labor and birth. Each participant will verbalize normal postpartum appearance of the mother. Each participant will describe three symptoms of postpartum depression. Each participant will list newborn home safety recommendations. Each participant will describe normal vital signs and characteristics in the newborn such as, temperature, respirations and color. Each participant will demonstrate three breastfeeding positions. Each participant will identify signs and symptoms of mastitis. New Birth Company is approved as a provider of continuing nursing education by the Kansas State Board of Nursing.
