A private in-person screening of Clothed Minds followed by a Q&A with the producer and director, Carletta S. Hurt, and special guests. Clothed Minds is a documentary focusing on the effects that school dress code policies have on Black girls in the Washington DC public and charter school systems. Based on the report “Dress Coded: Black girls, bodies and bias in DC Schools” from the National Women’s Law Center, this documentary seeks to explore the impacts that strictly enforcing dress codes on Black girls over other races and genders. The harsh punishments were proven to lead to detrimental effects on the girls’ school performance, self-esteem and even the ability to find and maintain work as adults. We invite educators and students to a private in-person early screening of Clothed Mind followed by a Q&A with the producer and director, Carletta S. Hurt, and special guests. Attendees will have the chance to share their experiences with dress code policies and learn how they can bring this important discussion to their school. Masks are required.
