Description

Join the St. Louis Aquarium Foundation in cleaning up along the Mississippi River near the Old Chain of Rocks Bridge! In partnership with the Mississippi River Plastic Pollution Initiative, the STL Aquarium Foundation Stream Team (#6198) and Madison Count, IL invites volunteers to help clean up the riverbanks of the Mississippi River. We will be using the Marine Debris Tracker app (training provided day of event) to log every item picked up. The data we record will be used to create a baseline of plastic pollution along the river and generate a ‘plastic pollution map’ that will help policy makers, businesses, and citizens take action to protect our waterways. Gloves, bags, litter grabbers, reflective safety vests, and a Missouri Stream Team T-shirt will be provided. Please bring a reusable water bottle, dress for the weather, and be prepared to get muddy! Volunteers will be required to wear reflective safety vests (provided) and face masks. There will also be a participation waiver volunteers must agree to and sign at check-in on the day of the event. Children are welcome to participate as long as there is one adult accompanying every child under the age of 18. Please note that we will be cleaning in a park/wooded area near the Mississippi River but will not be going on a boat or into the river during this clean-up event. Access to public lands for this cleanup provided through the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
