PETALUMA, CA — A Rohnert Park man was arrested on suspicion of drug and gun charges Saturday in a Petaluma traffic stop, police said.
Around 4 p.m. Saturday, a Petaluma police officer was stationed in front of the Petaluma Library watching for traffic violations when a car with illegal equipment passed by, police said in a news release.
The officer stopped the driver at the corner of East Washington Street and North McDowell Boulevard and ran a records check which revealed the driver, 34-year-old Joseph Peter Ferretti, was on pre-trial release from Sonoma County.
Officers searched Ferretti's person and found a clear plastic bag containing the opiate fentanyl, police said.
Officers then searched Ferretti's car and found a drawstring bag with a digital scale, a bag of five bundles of fentanyl, and two guns, police said.
Ferretti was arrested and booked into Sonoma County jail on suspicion of possessing a loaded firearm in a public place, being a prohibited person in possession of a firearm, possessing narcotics while armed, and possession of narcotics and paraphernalia, Petaluma police said.
