Description
CONCORD, NH — Residents of West Concord braved the bustling drivers on Carter Hill Road to warn them after a wire snapped from a utility pole causing a tree and brush to catch on fire.
Around 11:30 a.m., a homeowner heard a soft bang sound and then, went out to see what happened. When they went to the road, they saw a downed electrical wire and fire coming from a pine tree and brush on the ground.
The homeowner called 911 and waited while the residents warned drivers to stop or drive around the wire.
"Some just ran over the wire," the homeowner said.
About 30 minutes later, a battalion commander arrived and closed down the roadway. Concord police were requested to block traffic from the area not long after the battalion commander arrived.
Firefighters extinguished the fire and cleared the area around 12:30 p.m.
Unitil was called and sent trucks to the scene. At least one customer is without power and the company is assessing power restoration at post time.
