Press release from the City of Long Beach: 4/6/2021 Long Beach Parks, Recreation and Marine lbparks.org Virtual ClassesPeople can participate, from the comfort of their home, in the following virtual classes:Youth Enrichment Homework Help (Grades 1-2) - Teachers will create an individualized homework program to assist students in keeping up and getting ahead with school work. (Ages 5 years 5 months to 7 years 5 months. Mondays and Wednesdays, 3:30 to 4:15 p.m., April 12 through May 5 and May 10 through 26). Homework Help (Grades 3-4) - Teachers will create an individualized homework program to assist students with school work. (Ages 7 years 5 months to 9 years 5 months. Mondays and Wednesdays, 4:25 to 5:10 p.m., April 12 through May 5 and May 10 through 26). Homework Help (Grades 5-6) - Teachers will create an individualized homework program to assist students with school work. (Ages 9 years 5 months to 11 years 5 months. Mondays and Wednesdays, 5:20 to 6:05 p.m., April 12 through May 5 and May 10 through 26). Math Development (Grades 2-6) - Receive assistance in the area of mathematics. (Tuesdays and Thursdays, 5:20 to 6:05 p.m., April 13 through May 6 and May 11 through 27). Reading Development (Grades 1-2) - Interactive audio lessons, skills cards, worksheets and short stories assist the student along the path of reading mastery. (Tuesdays and Thursdays, 3:30 to 4:15 p.m., April 13 through May 6 and May 11 through 27). Reading Development (Grades 3-6) - Skill-based curriculum assists struggling students and challenges advanced students. (Tuesdays and Thursdays, 4:25 to 5:10 p.m., April 13 through May 6 and May 11 through 27). Adult Fitness Dynamic Yoga: Physical Health & Mental Balance (16 years and older) - Explore the subtle actions of poses and learn to refine breath, focus and postures. (Tuesdays, 6 to 7:15 p.m., April 13 through 27 and May 4 through 25; and Thursdays, 6 to 7:15 p.m., April 15 through 29 and May 6 through 27). Fitness Fusion (16 years and older) - Fusion of strength, kickboxing, cardio and flexibility. Participants will need a set of dumbbells, resistance band and mat or carpeted area. (Tuesdays, 9 to 10 a.m., April 13 through 27 and May 4 through 25). Holistic Yoga: Using a chair as a Prop (16 years and older) - Fundamental poses and breath regulation, proper alignment, breathing and mindful movement, using a chair. (Tuesdays, 11 a.m. to 12:15 p.m., April 13 through 27 and May 4 through 25). Punch, Kick & Sweat (16 years and older) - Kickboxing increases cardiovascular endurance using arms, legs, core and bodyweight strength. (Wednesdays, 5:45 to 6:30 p.m., April 14 through 28 and May 5 through 26. No class on May 19). Adults 50+ FUNctional Movement, Balance & Brains (50 years and older) - Improve balance, stability, agility and strength. Brain-training drills to help improve memory, problem solving and mental acuity will be offered. (Tuesdays, 10:30 to 11:15 a.m., April 13 through 27 and May 4 through 25). Outdoor ClassesTo ensure everyone's safety, outdoor class participants and staff will adhere to the following COVID-19 safety protocols: Health screenings for participants. Limiting the number of participants in each class. Implementing physical distancing protocols. Requiring face coverings for participants and staff. Pre-School Sports TinyTykes Youth Soccer (Ages 2 to 3 and 4 to 5 years) - Learn soccer basics and develop motor skills, balance, coordination, concentration, and teamwork. Takes place at Wardlow Park. (Wednesdays, 9:15 to 10 a.m., April 14 through May 26 for ages 2 to 3; and 10 to 10:45 a.m. for ages 4 to 5). Youth Sports Karate (Ages 5 to 12 years)- The philosophy and rules of karate will help children develop a better form of discipline and respect. Takes place at Cesar Chavez Park. (Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, 6 to 7 p.m., April 12 through 30 and May 3 through 31). Shotokan Karate (Ages 5 to 17 years) - Students develop self-defense skills, self-discipline, improve concentration, coordination and focus. Takes place at Bixby Park. (Fridays and Saturdays, 6 to 7 p.m., April 16 through 30 and May 1 through 29). Adult Fitness CSI - Cardio Sculpt Low-Impact Aerobics (12 years and older) - Increase cardio endurance, build core strength plus balance with mat pilates, weights and bands. Takes place at El Dorado Park West. (Mondays and Wednesdays, 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., April 12 through 28 and May 3 through 26). Fitness Fusion (16 years and older) - Gain a total body workout with a fusion of strength, kickboxing, cardio and flexibility. Takes place at Good Neighbor Park. (Thursdays, 6 to 7 p.m., April 15 through 29 and May 6 through 27). Yoga with Lacey (16 years and older) - Alignment-based class includes movement focused upon strength, stretch and balance. Takes place at Wardlow Park. (Wednesdays, 6:15 to 7:15 p.m., April 14 through 28 and May 5 through 26; and Wednesdays, 7:30 to 8:30 p.m., April 14 through 28 and May 5 through 26). Adult Sports Karate – (12 years and older) - The philosophy and rules of karate will help develop a better form of discipline and respect. Takes place at Cesar Chavez Park. (Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, 7:15 to 8:30 p.m., April 12 through 30 and May 3 through 31). Shotokan Karate (18 years and older) - A Japanese karate developed from various martial arts "empty hand" fighting. To learn the Shotokan style one begins with humility. Takes place at Bixby Park. (Fridays and Saturdays, 7 to 8 p.m., April 16 through 30 and May 1 through 29). Adult 50+ Fitness Chair Based Yoga (50 years and older) - Incorporate the use of a chair for various poses and movements. Meditation, breathing and relaxation techniques are also included. Takes place at Wardlow Park. (Wednesdays, 9 to 10 a.m., April 14 through 28 and May 5 through 26). Gentle Yoga - All Levels (50 years and older) - Improve flexibility, strength, balance and general well-being. Bring a yoga mat and a beach towel. Takes place at Recreation Park.
