Press release from the Wright County Government: April 6, 2021 If you have traveled I-94 this week, you have likely seen the interactive signs advising motorists about distracted driving and texting while driving. That isn't a coincidence. The Minnesota Department of Public Safety (DPS) has announced that through the remainder of April there will be additional distracted driving enforcement on Minnesota roads. The DPS' Office of Traffic Safety coordinates this campaign each April with funding from the National Highway Traffic Administration. One in nine crashes over the last five years (more than 39,000) have been attributed to distracted driving in Minnesota, including 960 serious injuries and 155 deaths. Last year in a one-week campaign in August, more than 1,400 citations were handed out in Minnesota. The Minnesota Hands-Free Driving Law took effect Aug. 1, 2019.
