JEFFERSON COUNTY, AL — Three people were found dead Monday from what investigators believe were drug overdoses. The deceased were found in the Livingston Oaks Apartments in east Jefferson County.
Sgt. Joni Money of the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office said the discovery was made just after 7 a.m. Monday when deputies were called to investigate a 42-year-old woman who was not breathing. Money said investigators determined the female had been using crack cocaine and had overdosed.
Around 5:15 p.m. the same day, a person entered another apartment located in the same complex to check on a family member and found two females who were unresponsive. The victims were 56 and 58 years old.
"It appeared that illegal drugs may have been used recently by the two," Money said. "The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office is investigating the circumstances surrounding the deaths and is attempting to determine if the victims used the same type narcotics."
The Jefferson County Coroner's Office will determine the exact cause and manner of death in these cases, Money said.
"If you have in your possession, or know of anyone who has crack cocaine in their possession, it is imperative that you understand, not only is it illegal and harmful, it is deadly," Money said.
