Apex Engineers, Inc is seeking an Inspector / Field Technician to join our growing Field team performing residential third party and commercial special inspections throughout the greater Kansas City metropolitan area. This entry to mid-level role is an exciting opportunity to start or further your inspections career and obtain additional certifications. As an Inspector / Field Technician, you’ll be expected to quickly master the Apex standards of third party residential inspections of slabs, footings, walls, house piers and more. From there, you will start learning Apex’s commercial special inspections standards and regularly performing commercial special inspections. In this position, you’ll continue down the path of certification, working closely with the Inspections Manager to develop an individualized certification plan tailored to your experience. While based at our Kansas City office, this position requires daily driving throughout the metro and to Lawrence, KS. Field Technicians generally drive 50-250 miles per day. Driving to and from jobsites is a large part of the job duties. We do not perform as much concrete testing as other firms, typically once a week or 5-6 times per month. This position does not typically require compaction testing of soils. Schedule This position works variable hours Monday-Friday from 7 am - 7 pm with some Saturday work. Usually, you will work 40 hours per week. During peak season, this position may have required overtime. Construction Materials Testing or CMT Inspector/Technician / Special Inspector / Building Inspector Qualifications and Abilities Minimum of a high school diploma or GED. Associates degree in engineering, drafting or related field preferred. Demonstrated ability to read construction prints and specifications. Possession of a valid driver’s license and clean driving record (required) Possess ACI Concrete Certification (or obtain one within 6 months of starting employment with Apex). Strong focus on customer service, operational excellence, and process improvement Physical Requirements The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by a teammate to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. This position requires Concrete Testing which entails moving a concrete loaded wheelbarrow weighing upwards of 75 pounds around a construction site. Concrete testing requires, concrete air metering of weights of approximately 50 pounds and carrying concrete cylinders weighing 15-20 pounds each around a construction site. Working Conditions The worker is subject to both indoor and outdoor environmental conditions. While in the field, the worker is subject to both extreme cold and heat. Inspections may require the worker to perform in temperatures below 32 degrees for periods of more than one hour. Inspections may require the worker to perform in temperatures above 100 degrees for periods of more than one hour. While in the field, the worker is subject to the loud noise of a typical construction site. There is sufficient noise to cause the worker to shout in order to be heard above ambient noise level. The worker is subject to the physical hazards of a typical construction site including proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, and working on scaffolding and high places.
