Offering clarinet lessons for students of any age or level in the northern Virginia area! Both in-person and online lesson options are available. My clarinet lesson course includes a weekly meeting time (30, 60, or 90 min options), daily “office hours” to ask questions outside of lesson time, as well as included instrument repair/maintenance for local students. My goal is to offer students a clarinet lesson course which builds short- and long-term plans for improvement, a life-long appreciation for music, as well as patience and a work ethic that will be as valuable in music as it is in all other aspects of life. I believe that a weekly lesson is only a starting point for anyone seeking improvement in the musical craft, which is why I am building my approach to make myself accessible daily to guide and streamline the learning process. My instruction always keeps the focus on the excitement of music-making, while also placing a strong emphasis on fundamentals, which equip the student to approach and tackle their favorite styles of music and to succeed in auditions and performances. I am currently the principal clarinetist in the Firelands Symphony Orchestra and have also performed frequently with the Youngstown Symphony and the Cleveland POPS Orchestra. Additionally, I am an avid chamber musician, currently playing with the Philharmonia da Camera. I hold a bachelor's degree from the Oberlin Conservatory, where I studied with Richard Hawkins, and a master's degree from the Cleveland Institute of Music, where I studied with Franklin Cohen. As my student, you will be receiving the practical and stylistic approaches passed down to me by these wonderful teachers!
