STOUGHTON, MA — There will be an old face and also a new one on the Stoughton Select Board after voters picked Scott Carrara and incumbent Steve Cavey in the town election Tuesday night. Carrara, a town meeting member and former member of the Conservation Committee and Zoning Board of Appeals, led all candidates with 814 votes, according to unofficial results. Carrara highlighted his experience in local government in his candidate profile with Patch and said it will help him prioritize which town projects can and can't wait. "I feel the Board needs an experienced person who can prioritize the spending and projects that are needed," Carrara said. "The residents deserve a person who has the knowledge, experience and common sense to make the proper decision that will not burden our tax paying residents." Cavey, who was first elected to the Select Board in 2018, received 729 votes. The race also featured challengers: David Lurie and Jarred Rose, though it's possible they could decide to run again later this year. A third seat also became available with the resignation of Chair Christine Howe, as she accepted a government job in Idaho. Her seat will be filled in a special election this year. Overall, 1,548 of Stoughton's 19,920 voters, or 7.8 percent, cast a ballot in the 2021 town election.
