NEW YORK CITY — Time and again, Mayor Bill de Blasio has claimed New York City can dole out 500,000 doses of coronavirus vaccine. But Hizzoner's claims fell short week after week as the city's vaccine supply repeatedly came in low. Things changed last week, he said. "Well, guess what — we got the supply and we have now surpassed half a million doses in a week and we can go farther," de Blasio said Monday. Vaccine sites across the city put 524,520 doses into arms last week, de Blasio said. The city also set a single-day record on Good Friday, with 100,669 shots, he said. The Easter holiday weekend had roughly 270,000 given out, de Blasio said. "To date, we have given 4,462,022 vaccinations," he said. "That is more vaccinations than there are people in the State of Oregon." All New Yorkers 16 and up starting Tuesday can receive COVID-19 vaccine doses — a milestone in the inoculation effort that threatens to create bottlenecks for vaccine hub sign ups. De Blasio said the city is expected to receive more vaccine supply going forward. Shipments of single-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine will increase by 77,000 shots a week, he said.
