Press release from the Carroll County Chamber of Commerce : 04/05/2021 Carroll Community College (Carroll), in partnership with Penguin Random House, will host the annual Penguin Random House Book Fair on Friday, April 9 and Saturday, April 10, 2021. This virtual event will kick off at 2pm on Friday, April 9 and will be available online until the event wraps up on Saturday, April 10 at 4pm. The virtual event is free and open to the public. "We have re-imagined this signature event into a virtual format, with the goal of making it exciting, interactive and educational for readers of all ages, while respecting the safety of our community," said Dr. James D. Ball, President, Carroll Community College.   "We are excited to bring the power of books to the local community here in Carroll County, with the intent to both entertain and inspire," said Annette Danek-Akey, Executive Vice President, Supply Chain at Penguin Random House in Westminster. "Four of our best-selling and award-winning authors will be featured, and their talks will include works targeted to adults, teens and children."   Ann Napolitano, the author of the New York Times bestseller Dear Edward, will be presenting live on Friday, April 9th at 7:30pm.  A link to her presentation will be displayed on the Book Fair website https://www.carrollcc.edu/AuthorTalks/.  She will take audience questions submitted via chat live, providing a truly interactive experience.   Dear Edward is about a young boy who must learn to go on after surviving a tragic plane crash in which he was the sole survivor. The novel is described as a coming-of-age story combined with an unforgettable cast of characters, the fellow airplane passengers of the protagonist. The New York Times Book Review calls Dear Edward "a surprisingly uplifting story, full of hope and dry humor, with an underlying, noncloying message about the decency of strangers."         Napolitano is also the author of the acclaimed novels A Good Hard Look and Within Arm's Reach. She is the Associate Editor of One Story literary magazine. She has an MFA from New York University, and has taught fiction writing for Brooklyn College, NYU, and Gotham Writers' Workshop. She lives in Brooklyn with her family.   Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff, the New York Times bestselling co-authors of the Illuminae Files, will discuss their second book in the Aurora Cycle Series, Aurora Burning.
