WALLINGFORD, CT — Emily Banach was appointed the new principal at Highland Elementary School in Wallingford at Monday night's Board of Education meeting. Banach, who has served as the social worker at Rock Hill Elementary School since 2012, will succeed Victoria Reed who is retiring at the end of the school year. Prior to working at Rock Hill Elementary School, Banach worked as a Forensic Social Worker for Manhattan Child Advocacy Centers in New York City for six years, according to Superintendent Salvatore Menzo. "We look forward to Emily joining Highland Elementary School Staff," Menzo wrote in a message to parents. "Throughout the interview process, Mrs. Banach's thoughtful responses showed her genuine passion for placing student needs first. Her strong knowledge of social-emotional and instructional practice, mixed with her respect for students, families, and staff made her stand out from the other candidates." The Board of Education selected Banach after interviewing nine candidates and four finalists, according to the Meriden Record-Journal. Read more at the Meriden Record-Journal here.
