WALLER, WA — The Pierce County Sheriff's Department says defective brakes are to blame for a deadly semi truck crash early Monday in the Waller area. According to their investigators, the semi had been heading down Pioneer Way E near the intersection with Waller Road, when the brakes failed. The semi truck driver responded quickly, and avoided several cars, but the truck ultimately tipped and crashed into a nearby warehouse. (Pierce County Sheriff's Department) The semi truck driver, a 45-year-old man, was killed in the crash. No other injuries have been reported. Washington State Patrol says this incident is tragic, but is also a good reminder to double-check your car's equipment regularly. Two of our Commercial Vehicle Division (CVD) units assisted @PierceSheriff investigating this sad incident this morning. Please make sure to check your equipment - tires, brakes, lights, fluids - regularly as such incidents could be prevented! #EquipmentSafety @wspcvepio https://t.co/DPnFXl3dWh pic.twitter.com/PSMAFSb0TV— Trooper Robert Reyer (@wspd1pio) April 5, 2021
