The Police Assisted Addiction & Recovery Initiative (PAARI) provides training and support to help reduce opioid overdoses and create non-arrest pathways to treatment and recovery. By creating pathways to treatment and recovery, PAARI-affiliated police departments are saving lives, reducing crime, diverting people from the criminal justice system, saving time and resources, and increasing community trust and wellbeing. PAARI currently partners with more than 620 police departments nationwide. In response, SAMHSA awarded a two-year grant to the American Academy of Addiction Psychiatry (AAAP) with a large coalition to create the Opioid Response Network (ORN) to enhance prevention, treatment, and recovery efforts underway throughout the United States and territories. PAARI is one of 40 national professional organizations that make up the ORN coalition, providing training, technical assistance, and educational resources across the country, tailored to address locally identified needs. Funding for this training was made possible (in part) by grant no. 6H79TI080816 from SAMHSA.
