DOYLESTOWN, PA — Following the advice of its executive committee, the Doylestown Democrats voted not to endorse a candidate for mayor during its general meeting Monday.
By a margin of 13 votes, the group voted not to endorse a candidate, calling the race an "open primary" with members free to support any of the three candidates.
The Democratic candidates are Judith Fraivillig, an educator; Larissa "Lolly" Hopwood, a musician and activist; and Noni West, who currently serves on Doylestown Borough Council. There are no Republicans running for the seat.
During a virtual forum held Thursday featuring the three candidates, one of the moderators said that one of the candidates had the support of the Doylestown Democrats, a claim their chairperson later refuted.
"This is not the case," Doylestown Democrats Chair Connor O'Hanlon said in an email blast following the forum. "I emphasized on that forum and I do so again now: the Doylestown Democrats have not endorsed anyone for any position at this point in time."
Mayor Ron Strouse, who is not running for re-election, has declared his support for West to be his successor and is part of her campaign team.
