DARIEN, IL — Darien Alderman Eric Gustafson asked about the status of DuPage County's 75th Street construction in town at Monday's City Council meeting. "Are they ever going to get that done?" he said. The quick answer: Yes, they will. But the timing is more difficult to determine. Dan Gombac, Darien's municipal services director, said he expected the crews to return soon. "I haven't seen the final schedule yet. I would say that it's at least another two months with the landscaping and the paths (for pedestrians and bicyclists)," he said. He said the construction is behind, in part, because of utility issues, which sometimes happens with bigger projects. Gustafson said that if it was the city's project, it would have been done by now, to which Gombac joked, "Thanks for the boost of confidence, Alderman." Gustafson asked whether the city uses any of the contractors on the 75th Street construction for its own projects. Gombac said the city did not. The $16 million project includes improvements for 75th Street from Williams Street to Farmingdale Road, according to Omega Associates, which is the company representing DuPage County on the project. According to Omega's website, the reconstruction and widening of 75th Street includes an additional lane in each direction. Turn lanes and signaled intersection improvements will be at Adams Street, Cass Avenue and Plainfield Road, the site said. The project is paid for, in part, by the federal government. Omega representatives did not return an immediate message for comment Tuesday afternoon.
