SONOMA COUNTY, CA — A Santa Rosa man was killed Monday when his car went off U.S. Highway 101 in Cloverdale and hit a tree, the California Highway Patrol said. The solo-vehicle crash was reported around 5:30 p.m. on northbound U.S. 101, south of South Cloverdale Boulevard, CHP Officer David deRutte said. When CHP officers and emergency personnel with the Cloverdale Fire Department arrived, the 31-year-old man was dead inside a gray Toyota Camry to the right of northbound lanes, deRutte said. As of Wednesday, the CHP was still investigating what caused the driver to veer off the roadway. The driver's name was expected to be released by the Sonoma County Sheriff-Coroner's Office once his next of kin were properly notified. CHP asked anyone who witnessed the collision or any events leading up to it to call its Santa Rosa Area Office Office at 707-588-1400.
