CHICAGO— A young boy was shot in the head Tuesday morning while in a car on Lake Shore Drive, according to police. The toddler was in a vehicle headed north near the 300 block of Lake Shore Drive when witnesses say they heard gunshots and saw a car crash near Grant Park at 11:06 a.m. A police spokesperson said during a briefing on Tuesday afternoon that the shooting was a result of a "road-rage incident" and that a weapon has been recovered from the car the young boy was in. The other vehicle involved sped off after the crash and police will release a description shortly. Mayor Lori Lightfoot said Tuesday that the child is a year old. Chicago police previously said the child is 2 years old. The child was traveling with a man and a woman who were taken with him to Northwestern Hospital by a nearby citizen in a Tesla. It is still uncertain why there was a weapon in the car with the child or the identity of the driver who shot at the young boy's car. The baby was transferred to Lurie Children's Hospital and is listed in critical condition. All northbound lanes of Lake Shore Drive were closed at Monroe Street while police investigated, but they were reopen by 4 p.m. The shooting occurred the same day Vice President Kamala Harris was scheduled to visit Chicago for her first time since taking office. Chicago police have at least one suspect, according to Lightfoot. This is a developing story, check back for updates
