Under the supervision of the Program Director, the Ropes Course Manager is primarily responsible for the safe and organized operation and program planning and implementing of the High and Low Ropes Course on camp. The Ropes Course Coordinator develops program goals and implements, coordinating the efforts of counselors assigned to the activity area. The Ropes Course Coordinator is expected to present themselves with integrity, act as a personal example in and outside of camp, and is committed to upholding the mission/vision of Camp Young Judaea Midwest. Responsibilities | The Ropes Course Coordinator is responsible for… Serving as the authority on safety at all Ropes Course elements, working closely with staff to ensure safety standards and procedures outlined in the Ropes Course Operations Manual are understood and maintained at all times by all camp staff & campers Understanding camp emergency policies and procedures on Ropes Course operations Maintaining all ropes course equipment in proper condition, and appropriately documenting its usage Properly instructing all campers & staff on safety standards and procedures for all Ropes Course activities Communicating proactively with CYJ leadership on key matters, including behavioral and safety matters, and document regular safety evaluations of Ropes Course staff Ensure all participants in ropes course activities are instructed in safety rules for the Ropes Course, and using equipment that is appropriately suited to size and ability Conducting routine Ropes Course emergency response drills with all Ropes Course staff as needed Supervising Ropes Course staff during all activities to ensure adherence to policy and staff well-being Immediately correct any unsafe practices, reporting any concerns to supervisors and camp leadership Coordinating with Unit Heads appropriate staff coverage of bunk activities and campouts that take place at the ropes course Planning, preparing and implementing safe and age-appropriate program goals for Ropes Course activity areas and for camp-wide Ropes Course programs Coordinating daily activity plans of Ropes Course specialists for all activities on the Ropes Courses Leading camp-wide activities through coordination of a committee Ensuring clean, orderly, and safe Ropes Course by developing, explaining, and enforcing instructions for all staff and campers on the use of Ropes Course supplies Creating inventory of and ordering all necessary materials, and packing away materials for the next year Assist your staff with problems and questions, and support their needs Regularly evaluate performance of staff members within your specialty, following camp evaluation policy Act on behalf of Ropes Course specialty area on issues involving camp community Be a presence and an advocate for camp wide policy Perform other duties as assigned Qualifications | What we look for in candidates for this job *A current and valid ACCT level 1 or higher ropes course facilitator certification Strong background (at least two summers of experience) working on a ropes course (preference given to experience as camp counselor) *Evidence of leadership skill and capacity *Experience leading and teaching creative Ropes Course activities in a youth development setting *Experience in coaching others in the implementation of creative Ropes Course activities *Desire and ability to work with children and adults in a camp setting *Ability to give & take constructive criticism *A self-starter and able to work with minimal supervision *Leadership skills, including the ability to motivate, manage, and counsel staff to maximize their skills *A team player, and recognizes the importance of group success *Comfortable managing and working alongside others who have different work styles *Comfortable working with children who have different learning styles
