GETTING THE RIGHT GUITAR INSTRUCTION THE FIRST TIME Let me begin by noting that if you seek a guitar teacher who teaches because they didn’t develop the skills of professional players and do not have work as players, I am not the right teacher for you. These are some of my qualifications: 1. I Began taking formal guitar lessons when I was 8 years old. 2. By sixth grade, I had a trio that played four gigs and was paid for all of them. 3. As a senior in High School, I was playing underage in bars for money. 4. I went to four years of traditional music school at Syracuse University and was the referral guitar instructor for non-music majors. 5. I did the "special studies program" at Berklee College of Music. 6. I studied with several famous jazz (Sal Slavador, Jack Wilkins) and few well-known classical guitarists (Manobianco, Williams). 7. I have greater than forty live and recording credits with household name rock stars ranging form Bo Diddley to Ringo as a guitarist and frequently musical director. I also have a few more notable credits with Grand Ole Opry Stars not playing country. 8. I broke into major league music as a guitarist by first becoming an agent. I worked at two major New York City talent agencies (I booked many famous musical acts and famous comics-- for example: Jay Leno and Jerry Seinfeld). This led me to having gigs and sessions with household name rock stars as a guitarist and frequently the musical director. 9. When I was 38, I stopped playing music and graduated from a top law school. Noting that you cannot teach at colleges without a Doctorate. 10. After being an entertainment attorney for slightly over a year I was invited and paid to travel to Syracuse University from my home in NYC to teach entertainment law. 11. Since then I have taught music, business, and law courses at several Universities and few smaller colleges. 12. I was the Faculty Chairperson of the Music Business Program at SAE Institute in Nashville. I redesigned most of the courses in their music business program. 13. A few years back I was asked to come out of retirement to play with The Hollies who had several Top Ten records in the late 1960s and early 1970s. 14. As a result, I stopped working as a full-time attorney and went back to being a musician. I then relocated to Nashville for 9 years where I worked as a full-time guitarist without playing country. I still own a muli-state law firm and don't go to work. 15. I have reasonably current product on Sony and did a college tour for the label a few years ago. You can also buy videos from "GuitarSlingers" at Guitar Center or Sam Ash if there are any copies left. 15. I have played live in almost every major venue in the U.S. and Canada from Madison Square Garden to the Hollywood Bowl. 16. I have a calendar as a guitarist doing live dates and teaching part-time since I returned from CA where I was doing sessions for Disney for the past 4 years. 17. I have been written about in Billboard, Rolling Stone, The Village Voice... 18. I am on television every night (cable) in some of those Time Life Video infomercials. I have also been on Entertainment Tonight, Nashville Star, The USA Network, VH-1, HBO, and PBS. Not mention a plethora of local shows in various regions. 19. In my 17 years as a full-time musician in NYC, 9 in Nashville, and 4 in CA, I never needed or had a day job. 20. I am proud to be able to help other musicians develop their craft for a low fee (obviously I don't do this for the money, that would be pretty sad). 21.
