APPLY HERE:               POSITION: Assistant Cook                                     REPORTS TO: Chief Steward and First Cook as requiredWORK HOURS: Regularly scheduled for 12 hour shifts, may be required to work additional hours due to occasional urgent vessel needs.  Shipyard duties to be fulfilled as required or assigned. Job Description: Assists Chief Steward or First Cook with preparation and cooking of family-style meals for crew on the fishing vessel.Assists with preparation of midday, evening, and night meals as necessary for the crew and others on a daily basis using kitchen equipment, tools, and supplies stored in the room temperature refrigerated and frozen storage areas.Ensures all food preparation and storage is in compliance with health standardsUnderstands and complies with company and regulatory environmental policies regarding hotel waste disposal.Cooks food in quantities according to menu and number of crew to be servedPrimarily responsible for baking bread and pastries dailyResponsible for maintaining and preparing a variety of  selections for salad bar.Replenish food items in steam table as needed during mealtimes.Assists in the loading and unloading of food and other supplies into various storage areas located on various levels of the vessel. Cleans kitchen area, equipment, and tools after each meal to meet sanitation standardsAssists with inventory and ordering as requested by Chief Steward or First Cook.Assists Galley Helpers on their duties on shift as necessary.Encourages and fosters good relationship with crew to ensure mealtimes are enjoyable.TRAINING REQUIRED: POSITION REQUIREMENTS:FREQUENCY:Alaska Food Handlers PermitEvery 3 yearsFirst Aid/CPREvery 2 yearsFood Safety System TrainingAs requiredCold Water SurvivalOnce within 180 days PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT: Hardhat, Reflective Safety Vest, cut proof glove
