We are currently searching for an experienced Campus Superintendent to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic, highly motivated, friendly, polite and able to operate well in a busy environment. The Campus Superintendent is responsible for the overall maintenance and operations of the synagogue to include custodial, maintenance, grounds, security, facility operations, repair projects and other duties as may be required to ensure the smooth operation of the congregation. The position includes hands-on, physical labor in addition to administrative and supervisory responsibilities. With the Director of Facilities, the Campus Superintendent strives to provide exemplary customer service, achieve satisfaction and excellence in the quality and condition of our building while maintaining the highest standards of accuracy, timeliness, and compliance. Campus Superintendent must work cooperatively as a positive member of the Temple Beth El team with clergy, other professionals, support staff and outside contractors. JOB SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Inspect grounds, building and other areas daily to identify, minimize and correct hazardous property conditions or liability concerns ensuring that all areas are suitable for safe operations, and maintained in an attractive and clean condition. Assign/supervise daily work of subordinates engaged in maintenance and repairs, room setups and transitions for daily functions and events. Coordinate and/or lead appropriate facilities set-up and technical equipment for a variety of activities either for the synagogue or for outside use as required. Maintain knowledge regarding methods of industrial cleaning, safety practices procedures and hazards. Respond to immediate safety issues to maintain a functioning environment. Oversee and manage upkeep and repair of all tools and grounds-keeping equipment. Schedule and coordinate annual inspections per state and county regulations. As appropriate, solicit and analyze proposals from contractors to perform various repairs and special maintenance. Determine the type, amount and delivery of maintenance and cleaning materials to support of the efficient delivery of assigned duties. Estimate the time and materials costs of proposed projects for the purpose of informing budgeting, planning and accountability of actual project costs. Track and communicate status of project requests to requestors and other interested parties to ensure timely feedback and accountability. Maintain manual and electronic documents, files and records (inspection records, staff schedules, work orders and requisitions, supplies, chemical storage, crisis management data, security controls) for the purpose of documenting activities and ensuring an up-to-date reference. Provide the Director of Facilities input regarding employee performance evaluations. Ensure effectiveness of staff through ongoing training, coaching, support and effective leadership. Provide assistance as needed, including but not limited to projects assigned by the Directors of Facilities. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES Hands-on knowledge and experience in building maintenance, custodial and grounds keeping work; safe operation of a variety of materials and tools used in performing essential functions; Solid understanding of safety regulations and practices; Effective communication skills, both oral and written, including the ability to interact/communicate with all types of members of the community including staff, directors, board members, volunteers and vendors. Excellent problem solving, and attention to detail; Must possess time management skills; Must possess leadership capabilities; Ability to utilize technology software; some experience preferred; Ability to multi-task, meet pressing deadlines and anticipate needs; Ability to withstand a variety of indoor and outdoor environmental conditions; Ability to attend to emergencies outside the normal hours; and Ability to work occasionally on nights and weekends. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE Associate’s degree or higher in a related field is desirable; equivalent work experience in facility maintenance and operations may be substituted for the degree requirement; 3+ year experience as Maintenance Supervisor; Prior successful experience in grounds and building maintenance strongly preferred. PHYSICAL DEMANDS While performing the duties of this job, requires continuous moderate with some strenuous physical exertion including standing, climbing, crawling, and occasionally lifting/moving of objects over 50 pounds. WORK ENVIRONMENT The work area involves moderate discomfort and/or risk such as operating equipment, or exposure to hazardous materials. Alternatively, the work area may be subject to environmental discomfort such as loud noises, and/or temperature extremes and inclement weather. Depending on the particular workplace and job duties, personal protective equipment (PPE) may be recommended or required. PPE may include, for example, gloves, goggles, face shields, masks and/or other protection. This position is full-time exempt (40 hours per week) located on our Schaefer Family Campus in Boca Raton, Florida. All candidates must pass the required Level II criminal background screening and a drug test, in order to be considered for this position. Salary is commensurate with relevant work experience.
