We are currently searching for an experienced Custodian to join our team. The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic, highly motivated, friendly, polite and able to operate well in a busy environment. The Custodian is responsible for working directly with the Campus Superintendent and the department in various maintenance duties, including lifting and moving, opening/closing the facility and other custodial functions to assure the effective and efficient operation of the campus. This position is during business hours on weekdays, but does required night and weekend availability. JOB SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Carry out the general cleaning of the building premises and offices. This includes the cleaning of hallways, kitchen, conference rooms, lobby, corridors, storage areas and other work spaces. Cleaning may include, but is not limited to, removing trash, vacuuming, mopping, sweeping, dusting, buffing, cleaning carpets, washing windows, scrubbing floors and ceilings, and sanitizing restrooms. Perform minor maintenance repairs and building/facility modifications such as repairing, moving or assembling furniture; repairing custodial equipment; touch up or cover up painting; hanging teaching aids, etc. Perform daily grounds and building inspections for hazards and damage. Complete and submit works orders for repair or replacement. Perform cleaning and monitor restrooms throughout the day to ensure health and safety standards are upheld. Follow Universal Precautions and sanitation procedures when handling clean-up of bodily fluids. Follow security protocol and report suspicious activity to the Campus Superintendent and the Director of Facilities. Open and close the building as required for all activities as authorized, ensuring that the premises are kept secure at all times. Complete room setups and transitions for daily functions, board meetings, events and special classes, ensuring areas are clean and tidy and furniture stored away after such events. Use daily custodial correspondences including checklists, logs and work orders. Receive, unpack, store and deliver instructional and custodial supplies to appropriate staff member or storage area ensuring that the delivery notes are correct and where there is a discrepancy taking appropriate action. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES Oral and written communication skills; Must be a self-starter and possess the ability to work both independently and with a team; Ability to understand work directions and communicate in English; Ability to manage multiple tasks with frequent interruptions; Ability to communicate, interact and work harmoniously, effectively and cooperatively at all levels of the organization; Ability to recognize the importance of safety in the workplace, follow safety rules, practice safe work habits, utilize appropriate safety equipment and report unsafe conditions to supervisor; Ability to promote and follow the organization policies and building and department procedures; Ability to work on nights and weekends is a requirement. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE High school diploma, completion of G.E.D., or equivalent vocational school; 2 + years of experience in custodial work, operating custodial equipment and basic computer skills; PHYSICAL DEMANDS The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, requires continuous moderate with some strenuous physical exertion including standing, climbing, crawling, and occasionally lifting/moving of objects over 50 pounds. Position involves occasional repetitive motion in performing tasks and the ability to smell potentially dangerous chemicals. WORK ENVIRONMENT The work area involves moderate discomfort and/or risk such as operating equipment, or exposure to hazardous materials. Alternatively, the work area may be subject to environmental discomfort such as loud noises, and/or temperature extremes and inclement weather. Depending on the particular workplace and job duties, personal protective equipment (PPE) may be recommended or required. PPE may include, for example, gloves, goggles, face shields, masks and/or other protection. This position is full-time hourly (40 hours per week) located on our Schaefer Family Campus in Boca Raton, Florida. All candidates must pass the required Level II criminal background screening and a drug test, in order to be considered for this position. Salary is commensurate with relevant work experience.
