Press release from the Cobb County Government: April 2, 2021 Chairwoman Lisa Cupid held a news conference hours after learning the 2021 Major League Baseball All-Star Game would be moved out of Cobb County. MLB's Commissioner said in a news release the league was reacting to recently enacted legislation in Georgia involving changes to the elections system. "While I am certainly disappointed Major League Baseball decided to pull the All-Star Game out of Cobb County, Georgia, I certainly understand," Cupid told reporters. "We need to take this as an opportunity to reflect on what occurred, and to determine what we can do to address some of the challenges with this legislation, to encourage voter participation and inclusion in this state." The CEO of Cobb and Tourism echoed the disappointment with the decision. "This would have been a big boost to Cobb businesses and help with the recovery effort following the COVID-19 pandemic," said Holly Quinlan. Chairwoman Cupid said county leaders will do their best to turn this unfortunate situation into a positive one. "You always learn to make lemonade out of lemons," Cupid said. "Whenever challenges or setbacks are before you, you always have opportunities to learn from them. You can position yourself to not have to experience them again."
