MANASSAS, VA — A 13-year-old boy from Bristow died after a crash in Manassas on Sunday. Five other people suffered injuries in the crash and were treated at nearby hospitals, according to a release from the police department. The crash occurred around 5 p.m. Sunday at the intersection of Prince William Parkway and University Boulevard in Manassas, according to the police department. A 2005 Honda Civic on University Boulevard attempted to turn left onto Prince William Parkway. Authorities said the sedan ignored the red light at the intersection. As the sedan entered the intersection, it collided with a 2003 Ford F-250 that was traveling through the intersection southbound on Prince William Parkway. The truck hit the rear of the Honda Civic, police said. Five people were in the Honda Civic, including a 13-year-old boy. The youth was pinned inside the Civic after the crash, authorities said. He was removed by an off-duty police officer and a first responder, who performed CPR before rescue personnel arrived. All five occupants of the Honda Civic were taken to area hospitals for treatment. The 13-year-old boy died at the hospital. Police said the 13-year-old boy and a 16-year-old boy in the Honda Civic were not wearing their seatbelts. The 16-year-old was thrown from the car and suffered serious, life-threatening injuries, according to police. A third boy in the Civic, who is 9 years old, also suffered serious injuries. Two adults in the Civic and the driver of the Ford F-250 were taken to the hospital with minor injuries. Authorities are still investigating, but they said speed was a contributing factor in the crash.
