WATSONVILLE, CA — Watsonville Police Chief David Honda will retire July 1 after spending 30 years in law enforcement and five years at the helm of the city's police department.
Assistant Police Chief Thomas Sims will serve as interim police chief until a permanent chief can be found.
Honda said in an open letter to the community that it's been a privilege and honor to serve Watsonville.
"I have witnessed how the community has worked alongside us during some of the most challenging times," he wrote. "I leave knowing we've created strong community relationships with a solid foundation to tackle the challenges before us."
Honda said he will work with City Manager Matt Huffaker to find a replacement.
"Although this is the end of an amazing chapter in my life, I look forward to what's next," he said.
