SAN RAFAEL, CA — A long-awaited San Rafael pedestrian safety project is finally up and running. The San Rafael High School Crosswalk project had been expected to be completed in January but was delayed by the arrival of some parts. The new Pedestrian Hybrid Beacon on Third St in front of San Rafael High School, funded by Local Measure AA, provides a midblock pedestrian crossing between campus & Montecito Plaza Thank you Transportation Authority of Marin & San Rafael City Schools for helping make this happen pic.twitter.com/Yf8laQfdYI— San Rafael Public Works (@SanRafaelDPW) April 5, 2021 The traffic signal cabinet and controller arrived finally arrived in March and the pedestrian hybrid beacon on Third Street in front of the school was finally blinking Monday, the city's Public Works Department tweeted Monday. The project cost around $500,000 according to the city's website, $200,000 of which went toward planning and $300,000 toward construction. The project was funded by Local Measure AA to provide a midblock pedestrian crossing between the school and Montecito Plaza. "Thank you Transportation Authority of Marin & San Rafael City Schools for helping make this happen," the Department of Public Works tweeted.
