PHILADELPHIA — The next step in Philadelphia's coronavirus vaccination rollout is now underway as the city is vaccinating those in the Phase 1C group. Last week, officials announced Phase 1C vaccinations would begin Monday. While Phase 1C is being vaccinated now, the scope is limited for now. Four groups within Phase 1C are being prioritized for now, with other groups in the phase to be vaccinated later. Groups being vaccinated now are: sanitation workers;maintenance and janitorial staff;utility workers;and postal and package delivery workers;. The Health Department has asked vaccine providers, including pharmacies, to allow these prioritized groups to set appointments. Other groups prioritized in Phase 1c — including those in higher education, public-facing finance roles, transportation (such as airport and train workers, and taxi, and rideshare workers), construction, telecommunications and IT, the press, the legal industry, and public health workers — will be made eligible later this month. Those in Phase 1a and 1b groups are still eligible and are encouraged to get vaccinated. Officials last week said the city will enter Phase 2 no later than May 1. As of Monday, the city reports 556,773 people have been partially vaccinated and 318,604 have been fully vaccinated.
