LAKE COUNTY, IL — A Lake County woman faces a felony charge after she bit a Lake County Sheriff's Office deputy last week. Kayla C. Wood, 24, of the 24800 block of West Oak Avenue in unincorporated Lake Villa, is being held at the Lake County Jail as she awaits an initial court hearing on an aggravated battery to a peace officer charge, according to police. Authorities first made contact with Wood at about 9 p.m. on Friday when they were called to the 24800 block of West Oak Avenue in unincorporated Lake Villa. Wood was taken into custody and transported to an area hospital "due to some concerning statements she made." The Lake County State's Attorney's Office approved resisting arrest charges against Wood in connection with the incident, and a sheriff's office deputy responded to the hospital to deliver her citation. The deputy was able to hold Wood back, but Wood did slap the deputy across the face, police said. The deputy began to put handcuffs on her when she is accused of biting the deputy on the arm. The sheriff's deputy was treated at a local hospital and released. Wood was released from the hospital and transported to the Lake County Jail. Wood remains held on the charges of aggravated battery to a peace officer and three counts of resisting arrest pending an initial court hearing.
